Reuse of transformers
Due to the energy transition, transformers are scarcer and delivery times are increasing. So we reuse transformers. After a thorough review, we use them optimally at a new location. We will further expand this measure in the coming years, as the energy transition progresses.
Recuperation of components from light fixtures and footpath cabinets
As part of the refurbishment, we dismantle a lot of old luminaires and footpath cabinets in order to recycle them as efficiently as possible. A custom company then sorts the material flows into metal, copper, plastic and electrical parts. We have been applying this measure for several years. The more we decompose, the greater our contribution to our circular use of materials.
Digital meter refurbished
Since the beginning of 2025, Fluvius has been collecting usable digital electricity meters for re-installation, of course after a thorough check. In this way, we prevent perfectly functioning devices from getting to the waste. The meters come, for example, from site connections or customers who increase their connection. Through this project, we want to bring those devices back into circulation. ‘Float’, a MAAtwerkbedrijf from Boom, ‘refurbishes’ all meters. They do a complete check and repackage the meter. However, the meter reading does not return to zero, so good registration and clear information for the customer are crucial.
Waste management
Fluvius strives for thoughtful and sustainable waste management as an integral part of daily operations. We avoid as much waste as possible, sort carefully and recycle into new raw materials wherever possible. This limits our environmental impact and promotes the circular use of materials. For example, discarded materials, such as parts of meters, public lighting and work clothing,a second life through reuse or recycling. In this way, Fluvius not only contributes to a more efficient use of raw materials, but also to more sustainable and socially responsible business operations.
