Customised electrical substation in a flood-prone area
Fluvius has installed a new flood-resistant high-voltage substation in the Ghent borough of Afsnee. This innovative prefabricated structure reinforces the electricity grid along the River Leie and is designed to continue functioning reliably, even in flood-prone areas.
The structure allows water to pass through without endangering the electrical components. The design is replicable, enabling us to apply this approach in other flood-prone areas as well, in line with the Integrated Water Policy in Flanders.
This reaffirms Fluvius’s commitment to investing in innovative infrastructure that supports the energy transition and guarantees the continuity of the electricity supply, even in challenging locations across Flanders.
