Sustainable operations

At Fluvius, we are constantly looking for ways to make our core operations more sustainable. And you may see this very broadly, ranging from avoiding service moves and purchasing appliances with a longer lifespan to reducing our waste streams. We would like to give you some examples.

Sustainable mobility

For several years now, we have had an Electric First policy for our company vehicles. The aim is to replace petrol and diesel cars with the most environmentally friendly alternative. Is a 100% electric model satisfactory in terms of range and payload? Then that is our first choice.

New waste policy

We are always looking for new ways to recycle our waste as much as possible. We have several examples of this:

  • When new, digital meters are installed, the covers of the old meter boxes are now shredded so that their raw materials can be fully reused.
  • The luminaires of old public lighting are replaced by LED luminaires and then completely dismantled, separating plastic, metal and other materials. In this way, we ensure a cleaner recycling and waste stream and also support social employment.
  • We shred old work clothes into high-quality fibres so they can be used for new scarves, hats, jumpers, ... We then sell these to our employees for the benefit of the Voedselbanken and Kom op Tegen Kanker.

No CSR without SRP

Corporate social responsibility also includes socially responsible procurement. This means that we pay attention to sustainability and social justice in our purchasing process. To this end, we include certain clauses in purchasing contracts with suppliers, even if they are located abroad, and carry out checks to ensure that these agreements are actually observed. This allows us to impose our standards on our partners and thus also contribute to their CSR.

Code of conduct for Fluvius suppliers

At Fluvius, we strive for a corporate culture based on responsibility and respect. Therefore, our Supplier Code of Conduct is designed to promote ethical behaviour, fair working conditions, environmental awareness and compliance with human rights.

As a key partner in our supply chain, we expect you to embrace and comply with this code. We believe in open communication and cooperation to achieve shared goals.

Reducing methane emissions

When we think of greenhouse gases, we usually immediately think of CO2, but methane (the main component of natural gas) also contributes to global warming. So it is in our best interest to release as little gas as possible from our grids. We do this through various measures. For instance, we replace older pipes in cast iron or fibre cement as much as possible with polyethylene pipes that are much more leak-proof, we systematically apply leak detection, use new working methods with much less to no gas loss and do everything possible to avoid incidents with excavation work. You can read all about it in this brochure (only available in Dutch).
