Investment Plan 2026-2035

How are we making Flanders' energy distribution grids ready for the future?

Investment needed for the energy transition in Flanders

The energy transition raises major issues in various societal domains. How do we optimally pursue climate neutrality by 2050? How do we produce more renewable energy? How do we heat our buildings? What will change in our mobility and production processes? And how do digital applications and smart electricity consumption help keep investments in grids manageable? In all these questions, the electricity grid plays a crucial role.

Specifically, that means a lot of structural and financial efforts. We are proud to present this in our Investment Plan 2026-2035. This plan provides a comprehensive overview of the investments we envisage for our distribution grids in the coming years.

Consultation period

A consultation period for all Fluvius stakeholders will run from Tuesday, June 10, 2025 through Tuesday, July 22, 2025. After the consultation period, Fluvius will collect all feedback received. The results of the consultation will be submitted together with the Investment Plan to Vlaamse Nutsregulator by October 1, 2025.

Why an investment plan 2026-2035

An investment plan is essential within the legal framework and provides transparency to our stakeholders. We make clear which investments are on the agenda and why they are necessary. Read more about why, the legal context and the principles of the Investment Plan 2026-2035.

Changing society

How is our social context changing?

Fluvius' Investment Plan is based on societal trends, such as the electrification of transport and heating, the use of waste heat, and the growth of solar and wind energy. We explain these future expectations in more detail in our Investment Plan 2026-2035.

What will our electricity grids look like in the future?

In the evolution towards climate neutrality, electricity has a bigger role to play. We are simulating its impact on our electricity grid and developing a plan of action to strengthen it.

More insight thanks to digitisation

We are reinforcing our grids by laying new cables and installing additional substations. But there is more. We are also investing in the digitalisation of our grids. This provides us with valuable data on the status of our grids.

The future of natural gas

While customers can still connect to the existing gas grid, alternatives for a climate-neutral Flanders will eventually be introduced. What impact will this have on our gas grid? And what are the alternatives?
